Assistant Professor of Habitat Restoration Ecology

Ph.D., Yale University - School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, 2000

Dr. Laura Meyerson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Resources Science at the University of Rhode Island. Her research addresses the mechanisms underpinning plant invasions and the consequences of this process for ecosystem function. She has also made significant contributions in the area of environmental policy at national and international levels working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. National Invasive Species Council, the Global Invasive Species Programme, and the Convention on Biological Diversity. Laura Meyerson started her work in policy as an Environmental Fellow with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and later as a staff scientist at the H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Policy and the Environment. Recently, she was selected as a 2009 Leopold Leadership Fellow. Dr. Meyerson seeks to generate new scientific knowledge and clearly communicate this science to the public, policy makers and the scientific community.
