Professor of Terrestrial Remote Sensing
Ph.D., University of Connecticut, 1995
Dr. Wang's research interests are in terrestrial remote sensing and quantitative methods in natural resources mapping. Particular areas of interest include remote sensing of the dynamics of landscape and land-use/land-cover change. Main research focus is in developing modeling mechanisms to bridge driving forces (both socioeconomic and natural factors) and the consequences of land-cover changes so that the human impacts on ecosystems can be effectively modeled. His research projects have addressed identification of natural communities and regional vegetation mapping for biodiversity conservation by integration of multispectral, multitemporal, multisensor remote sensing data, in situ observations, and GIS/GPS data. His projects have been funded by NASA, USAID, USDA, National Park Service, and his study areas include selected regions in the United States, East Africa, and China. Dr. Wang teaches classes in terrestrial remote sensing. His Laboratory for Terrestrial Remote Sensing possesses the capacity to process and analyze digital airborne and space-borne remote sensing data.
