Partners and Funding Sources
Local Resources
The department has a strong history of partnering with local and state departments and agencies addressing a wide range of environmental and natural resource issues. For example, we have active programs with the following local groups:
Rhode Island Agricultural Experiment Station The Rhode Island Agriculture Experiment Stations provides the core funding for a major portion of the research and outreach conducted by the Department. This core funding allows the department considerable flexibility by providing a base of support with which to leverage additional funds from a variety of sources.
ADVANCE A NSF-sponsored program designed to foster increased representation and participation of women faculty in Science, Math, and Engineering.
Coastal Institute The Coastal Institute provides an independent and neutral setting where stakeholders, decision makers, and scientists can develop solutions to sustaianably manage and use coastal ecosystems.
Rhode Island Sea Grant Conducts and supports "scientific research, education and extension projects designed to help people better understand and use ocean and coastal resources"
State of Rhode Island Various departments and agencies within the state, most notably the Department of Environmental Management and the Coastal Resources Management Council, provide support for a variety of projects undertaken by faculty and graduate students in the department.
National Resources
Throughout the years, the department has received support from several federal agencies. Currently we have ongoing projects with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Park Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the National Science Foundation.
